VAPING DUTY LIVE 1 OCT

Vaping Products Duty live from 1 October at £2.20 per 10ml

1 October 2026 go-liveManufacturers, importers, distributors

The new Vaping Products Duty takes effect from 1 October 2026 at £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid. Businesses in the supply chain must be registered and approved by that date to legally manufacture, import, or distribute product in the UK. Any client with an exposure to the sector needs registration and pricing conversations closed inside the next fortnight.

What this means for firms. Sweep the client book this week for anyone in vaping manufacture, import, wholesale, or retail. Missing the 1 October registration date means an operational shutdown, not just a penalty.

HMRC to cross-reference cryptoasset platform data against Self Assessment from 2027

Data-matching from 2027Voluntary disclosure window now

HMRC has confirmed it will begin cross-referencing cryptoasset platform data against Self Assessment returns from 2027. The confirmation follows the first wave of exchange-supplied nudge letters and closes any lingering doubt that platform-level reporting is now systemic. Advisers should begin voluntary disclosure conversations with clients holding material crypto positions now, ahead of the systematic matching taking effect.

What this means for firms. The window for a lower-friction voluntary disclosure is closing. Any client with historic crypto activity should be reviewed and, where appropriate, disclosed before matching runs against 2027-onwards returns.

CT1 DEADLINE 23 SEP

Corporation Tax CT1 filing deadline: 23 September 2026

2025 year-ends9 working days remaining

Irish companies with 2025 year-ends face a CT1 filing deadline of 23 September 2026. Firms should confirm client submissions ahead of the cut-off. The Companies Registration Office is also flagging processing delays on Ordinary A1 Online submissions received from late August, so filings that depend on CRO output need to be sequenced accordingly.

What this means for firms. Any Irish CT1 not through review by mid-week is at risk. Confirm client submissions and any CRO-dependent filings today.

VAT Modernisation: Phase 1 eInvoicing mandate lands 1 November 2028

Mandatory receipt capabilitySystem-readiness is a 2027 budget line

Phase 1 of Revenue's mandatory eInvoicing receipt capability remains scheduled for 1 November 2028. Firms advising Irish clients should factor system-readiness planning into 2027 budgets, and revisit ERP and finance-system roadmaps at the same time as the ASP conversations that are already active on the UK CBAM and RTI 2027-28 tracks.

The CRO was still working through Ordinary A1 Online submissions received on 26 August as of 10 September, while RCN Company Name Reservations were current to 10 September. Revenue Online Service maintenance took ROS offline between 6pm and 7.30pm on 10 September. Both items are worth flagging on client sequencing for the CT1 window.

From 8 September 2026, Xero began enforcing the KiwiSaverStatus field when creating or updating employee tax details via API. A relevant note for firms with cross-jurisdictional payroll clients or bespoke integrations that touch NZ-side employee records; unmapped fields will fail at write.

Independent advisers dominate the London mid-market league table

Perella Weinberg, Houlihan LokeyLincoln International, DC Advisory

Perella Weinberg Partners, Houlihan Lokey, Lincoln International, and DC Advisory continue to dominate independent M&A league tables in London, with mid-market deal flow this month concentrated in healthcare and legal-sector consolidation. Healthcare Sector Insights 2026 highlights sustained appetite from private equity and strategic acquirers despite wider macro caution.

Legal-sector M&A drives premium valuations

Sell-side mandates up year on yearCF pipeline for accountancy teams

UK law firms are reporting a wave of consolidation as regulatory pressure and technology investment reward scale. Sell-side mandates from mid-tier firms are up materially year on year, offering pipeline opportunity for accountancy corporate finance teams. The read echoes the accounting-sector consolidation drivers and rewards firms with combined tax, corporate finance, and IFA capability.

What this means for firms. Corporate finance leads should be actively pitching sell-side mandates to mid-tier legal principals now. The valuation window is open and moves fast.

IFA consolidation follows the accountancy roll-up trail

Combined tax, planning and CFMultiple premium

PE-backed IFA and wealth consolidators are increasingly buying integrated accountancy-plus-wealth propositions, mirroring the accountancy sector's own consolidation. Firms with combined tax, financial planning, and corporate finance offerings are commanding revenue multiples materially above single-service peers.

What this means for firms. Firms with an in-house IFA arm should be documenting the integration story now: cross-referral rates, retention, and shared-client economics are the numbers acquirers pay a premium for.
